Chewbacca Cake – May the Force be with You!

Chewbacca Cake

So, my daughter just turned 8 and is VERY much into Star Wars.  What does she ask for?  A Star Wars swim party. OK. Done deal. But wait! What about the cake? “CHEWBACCA!”, she says. Uhmmm…..OK. I’ll give it a whirl!

Chocolate Cake

Cream together one at a time:

1 cup butter – $1.10
1 3/4 cup sugar – $1.00
1 tsp vanilla – pantry
3 egg yolks (save whites) – $1.00
1 cup cold water

Sift together:

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour – $.85
1/2 cup dry cocoa – $.50
1 1/2 tsp baking soda – pantry
1 tsp salt – pantry

Mix dry ingredients with creamed mixture. I prefer to hand mix, but you can beat on low.  Beat egg whites to stiff peak and fold into batter. Pour into floured cake pan.  Bake at 350 degree for 35 to 40 minutes or till cake springs back.

Decorating:

4 tubs of frosting – $3.85
Brown and Black frosting color – $1.50

I used cupcakes for his body.  Frosting was tinted to the right brown and gray tones for his hair.  M&M’s for eyes and whopper for nose (next time, I’d use a junior mint and no frosting). Oh, and yogurt covered raisins for teeth. There you have it….Chewbacca!  What do you think?

This chocolate cake recipe is the best I’ve found.  It’s easy and inexpensive and very, very moist.  Basically, it’s a simplified version of Thunder Cake, minus the tomato, so, if you want to try the “authentic” version, please do and let me know if there’s a real difference in flavor.

This cake was fun, tasted great and my kiddo was SUPER happy! Which makes me super happy! Yup…life is good and so is chocolate Chewbacca cake.

GRAND TOTAL: $9.80

  2. Hey that’s a pretty awesome cake well done! My husband makes the cakes in our house! I will have to show him this one:)

    • Thanks! I kinda rushed at the end with the party starting. I’d cut the teeth in half next time and I would use just a candy for the nose, no frosting. Maybe a junior mint. But we were happy with it. There are some pretty scary Chewys on the the Net. LOL! If you’re hubby does a cool cake, maybe he can guest post on $10 buck dinners!?
